From the time you decide to list your home for sale, you can’t wait for the process to be done with. You don’t need anything working against you because the process of selling your home is already time-consuming and stressful enough. Make sure you are not making the mistakes on this list.

1. Visible Damage – Holes in the wall, broken door frames, etc. need to be repaired before showing your home.

2. Damp Basement – Most basements are a little damp, but if your space is soggy buyers will worry about mold.

3. Carpeted Bathroom – There is no way every male in the house has hit his target in the toilet every single time. Not to mention, buyers will be certain there has to be mold growing underneath from the moisture.

4. Wrong Agent – Your agent directly represents you and your home. If they are lazy, rude, belligerent, etc. to you just imagine how they are with potential buyers.

5. Stalking – Sticking around while people are looking at your home is generally frowned upon. They won’t feel comfortable opening cupboards and closet doors or speaking candidly, if you are lingering around the corner.

6. Pets – This includes your pets, as well as your neighbor’s barking machine. A buyer who is not fond of animals doesn’t want to smell a litter box or be growled at through the fence. Ask your neighbor to bring their pet inside or slip them an extra-long bully stick to chew on. It will be $10 well spent.

7. Hidden Messes – Buyers will open cupboards and closets. They may even peek in your dresser drawer! Make sure everything is organized and tidy.

8. Crammed Closets – Closet space can play a big role in a decision. Pack half your clothes so the closet looks like you have more space than you need.

9. Dirty Home – A dirty home is a huge turn off for buyers. Is their home perfectly clean? Probably not! However, they don’t want to see filth in a home they are considering either.

10. No Curb Appeal – Buyers form an opinion about your home the second they pull in the driveway. In fact, they likely already did a drive by previously just to check it out. Make sure your landscaping is low-maintenance, but attractive. Keep the lawn mowed, weeds pulled, and clean water in the birdbath.

Selling your home is a huge process. You don’t need it dragged out over little things. Make sure your house is show-ready at all times, and be sure you are working with the right real estate partner.
